Description

A vertical cuttings dryer, or vertical centrifuge, is a key piece of equipment in drilling waste management used to separate and recover fluids from drilling cuttings. It uses centrifugal force to reduce the liquid content in both oil-based and water-based mud cuttings, minimizing waste volume and enabling the reuse of valuable drilling fluids.

Typical system integration
A vertical cuttings dryer is part of a larger solids control and waste management system. The process typically works as follows: 
  1. Feeding: Drill cuttings from a shale shaker or mud cleaner are conveyed into the top of the vertical cuttings dryer.
  2. Drying: Inside the dryer, high-speed rotation and centrifugal force separate the liquid from the solid cuttings.
  3. Discharge: The dried solids are discharged out of the bottom of the unit, often via another screw conveyor.
  4. Fluid Recovery: The separated liquid is collected and routed to a decanter centrifuge for further processing to remove fine solids, before being returned to the active mud system.
